At distance, the read is pure contrast: a deep black field interrupted by a band of soft white silhouettes, with a pale speckled base grounding the whole form. At medium range, the ghosts organise into a loose two-row rhythm — some upright, some tilted, one drifting with a longer tail — spaced unevenly so the eye keeps moving rather than settling. Up close, the faces are reduced to the minimum: two dots, a small oval mouth, occasionally a soft smile. That restraint is what makes them warm instead of eerie. The upper third of the mug stays deliberately empty, and that negative space is doing real work — it gives the small figures weight and keeps the design from crowding the rim.
